Mindfulness: A Guide for the SLP

This summer, I created a 30 minute recorded presentation for the ASHA Schools Connect 2021 on the topic of Mindfulness. This was definitely an FFT for me. Accepting the invitation and topic, preparing for it, and executing it was a big learning curve. I wasn’t looking for an exercise in overcoming self-doubt and turning off the critic in my ear, but it looks like I got one anyway.

The invitation to present on mindfulness for the 2021 ASHA Schools Connect came out of the blue. I don’t consider myself an expert on the topic. I am very much a learner and emerging practitioner. However, I do believe in the power and benefits of mindfulness and would love for more people to give it a try and see how it can improve their stress management. My awareness of mindfulness as a stress management tool came about because of the podcast! And I love sharing the things I learn from the podcast.

My hope is that the resources I’ve complied below will help you create a daily mindfulness habit. You’ll find links to the research supporting the effectiveness of various mindful practices, ideas for implementing mindfulness in your routine, and tools to implement. Share with me in the comments how you do mindfulness!

Here are a few resources from Canva that blend mindfulness with opportunities for self-care. These tools might be a useful place to begin your journey into mindfulness.
